A treasure trove of biodiversity, this is a tropical forest with 3 rivers, 4 tributaries and a number of waterfalls. Home to 34 species of mammals, 245 species of birds, 36 species of reptiles, 22 species of amphibians, 42 species of fish, 951 botanical specimens and 219 species of medicinal herbs. Guided entry into the sanctuary is permitted by Kerala Forest Department. There is a pond, which maintains its water level both in dry summer and also during the rainfall season. The Chengurinji tree, endemic to this sanctuary is the major attraction.
